Our Recovery-Informed Theatre Company produces full length productions of classical and contemporary plays that either directly address the themes around addiction or have been adapted to do so. We aim to produce at least three plays per year and our company members will be in rehearsals throughout the year in preparation for these.
The Company is aimed at people who are in recovery from addiction or committed to long-term sobriety, who already have prior experience of intensive actor training or of professional performance.
Our full length productions are an opportunity for actors who previously dis-engaged with the business due to substance abuse issues, to reconnect with the acting process, and are a gateway for them to re-enter the business should they wish to.
The shared lived experience of our actors and creative teams mean that you will be given a welcoming and supportive re-introduction to theatre life, and we are committed to building a sustained company and community of recovering actors, who are able to showcase their skills and abilities to the public and to industry professionals.
We also welcome into the company those actors who have undertaken sufficient acting classes within the CRAVE THEATRE programme and who have aspirations to become actors in the future.
Our mission is to provide a platform for anyone in recovery to access professional actor training and the acting industry.
Through elevated representation and visibility of openly sober actors in the industry, and increased promotion of the benefits of sobriety, we aim to continually challenge stigmas around those who have experienced issues with alcohol or drugs.
Please note; CRAVE THEATRE is NOT a recovery tool for people who are still drinking or using who wish to get clean or sober.
Our actors recovery life, mental welfare, and safety is our priority. Therefore, we do suggest that due to the emotional, psychological and social aspects of the rehearsal process, participants in our company's work should have at least one year of continued sobriety before joining us.
